The Sonar System | Kids Picture Book | Reggae Sound System Culture

The Sonar System is a kids’colorful new picture book set on Tesfa, a faraway planet that revolves around a gigantic speaker instead of a sun. Created by author and illustrator Ras Mykha, who’s also a singer and MC for reggae sound systems like Lion Roots, the book is designed to introduce children to sound system culture and celebrate cultural and ethnic diversity in kids’ literature.

It’s being published alongside a national tour documenting the history of reggae sound systems, which is currently at Bristol’s Colston Hall, and it’s out on July 21. Check out the spreads below and nab an advance copy from One Love Books.

For a deeper reggae education, older kids should check out David Katz’s invaluable guides to Bob Marley and the Wailers and Augustus Pablo.

The Sonar System’ is out 21 July at onelovebooks.com and all good book shops.
